AI Shade Finder: How to Find Your Perfect Foundation

Our AI Shade Finder takes the guesswork out of foundation shopping. Here is how to use it, what to expect, and how accurate the results really are.

Buying foundation online without testing it first is one of the most common sources of beauty disappointment. The FarmasiGlobal AI Shade Finder was built to solve exactly that problem — and it takes under two minutes to use. Here is everything you need to know.

How It Works

The AI Shade Finder uses a three-step questionnaire to identify your skin tone, undertone, and coverage preference. Based on your answers, it cross-references Farmasi's full shade database and recommends your best matches for foundation, concealer, and setting powder.

Step 1: Skin Tone

You will be asked to identify your skin tone across six options: Fair, Light, Medium, Olive, Tan, or Deep. If you are unsure, look at your forearm in natural daylight — not artificial light, which distorts tone readings. Choose the tone that most closely matches the inside of your wrist.

Step 2: Undertone

This is the step most people get wrong in-store. Undertone is separate from skin tone — it is the subtle hue beneath the surface: cool (pink/blue), warm (yellow/golden), or neutral (both equally). The easiest test: look at the veins on your inner wrist. Blue/purple = cool. Green = warm. Both = neutral.

Step 3: Your Results

The tool outputs recommended shade codes for three product categories: foundation, concealer, and powder. These match the exact Farmasi product codes used in the online shop, so you can add directly to your basket with confidence.

How Accurate Is It?

In our user testing across 50 participants, 82% found their recommended shade was an exact or very close match to what they would have chosen in-store. The remaining 18% reported needing one shade lighter or darker — a rate comparable to in-store swatch testing. For an online tool with no camera required, we consider this impressive accuracy.

Tips for Best Results

Use the tool in natural daylight, ideally near a window. Avoid overhead fluorescent lighting, which cools the perceived skin tone. If you fall between two skin tones, select the slightly lighter option for a more natural daytime finish. You can always blend with a brush for a seamless transition.
